Cllr Malcolm Brown attended Truro School and the London School of Economics before beginning a forty-year career with Cornwall County Council as a Research and Policy Development Officer in Planning and the Chief Executive’s Department. During this time, he served on a number of committees that assisted the Office for National Statistics in planning censuses and developing neighbourhood statistics, and he was appointed as an observer for the inaugural censuses in Moldova and Kosovo.

He served as a Restormel Borough Councillor from 1987 to 2009, during which he chaired the Leisure Services Committee and later the Planning Committee. Following the abolition of the council, he was appointed an Honorary Alderman. Cllr Brown subsequently represented Bethel as a Cornwall Councillor for eight years, where he chaired the Licensing Act Committee and later the committee responsible for reviewing Cornwall’s community governance arrangements. In recognition of his public service, he was awarded an OBE in 1978. In 2025, he became a board member of the Cornwall Association of Local Councils. He has been a St Austell Town Councillor since 2012.

Cllr Jeremy Preece and his wife admired St Austell for many years before moving to the town in 2018. Prior to relocating, he served as a councillor for Aldershot on Rushmoor Borough Council for four years. He has been a St Austell Town Councillor for Bethel and Holmbush since 2023.

His professional background is in training, including designing and delivering training programmes, analysing training needs, and writing e‑learning materials. He has worked with government departments, the military, the NHS, the financial sector, and civil aviation.

Now fully retired, he is able to devote his time and energy to council work.

CCllr Colin Hamilton was elected to St Austell Town Council in May 2021 and served as Town Mayor for the 2025–2026 municipal year. He is Cornish born and bred, having been raised in Newquay, with strong family connections in Nanpean and St Austell.

He served for 35 years as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Air Force, retiring in 2006 from the Aircraft Test and Evaluation Centre at Boscombe Down. He subsequently worked for nine years with the Ministry of Defence as a consultant on procurement processes, future programmes, and technical requirements.

He is President of both the St Austell Branch of the Royal British Legion and the St Austell Sea Cadets, and remains a Chartered Engineer.

Cllr Jackie Bull attended St Austell Grammar School and had a career in the clay industry. She has served as a councillor for Restormel Borough Council, Cornwall County Council, Cornwall Council, and St Austell Town Council over a period of 24 years.

She was the last Mayor of Restormel and subsequently served as Mayor of St Austell Town. Among many roles during her public service, she also chaired the Cornwall Council Planning Committee.

Cllr Andrea Lanxon was first elected in 2015 and has previously served as both Deputy Mayor and Mayor of St Austell. She was born and grew up in the St Austell area and feels privileged to represent the community in which she lives.

During her working life, primarily in the print industry, she was elected to a wide range of roles within the Graphical, Paper and Media Union, progressing from workplace and regional committees to the National Executive. She was also involved with the South West TUC for many years. In addition, she served as Treasurer and Events Organiser for the Poltair Residents’ Association for 20 years and, in recognition of her community work, was awarded a Civic Award by Cornwall Council.

She is currently a member of the South West Peninsula Co‑operative Party Council and President of St John Ambulance, St Austell Unit. She is keen to help with local issues and improvements that benefit the town.

llr Jenny Lingham was elected to St Austell Town Council in May 2025. During the 2024–2025 mayoral year, she was closely involved in supporting a range of collaborative community events. This included leading the delivery of a family fun day, working closely with the Cornwall Council Community Area Partnership Co‑ordinator, and liaising with local providers and service users to promote shared understanding and a strong sense of community identity.

Her professional career spans over thirty years in education, working as a teacher, trainer, senior leader, and international schools inspector. Her specialist areas include inclusive learning, additional learning support, and specialist examinations assessment.

She was previously a keen runner but, following two hip replacements, has since found enjoyment and wellbeing through yoga and swimming.

Cllr Stephen Nott became deaf at the age of seven and has spent much of his life in the local area. He has longstanding associations with the Scouts, Sea Cadets, the Lions, and a number of organisations linked to deafness and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

His most recent professional role was as a Work‑Related Learning Co‑ordinator and Administrator at the Deaf Academy. Having run several businesses, worked across different industries, and travelled widely, he brings a broad depth of knowledge and experience. He recently achieved a BA (Hons) First Class degree in Criminology and Psychology, a significant achievement for someone with no residual hearing.

This is his second term as a councillor, and he serves as a proactive Independent.

Cllr Tina Taylor was elected to St Austell Town Council in May 2025 and has lived in St Austell since 1999. She has a professional background in support work relating to disability, autism, and mental health, and is particularly passionate about equality, inclusion, and improving access for all.

Her focus is on advocating for the protection and provision of services for vulnerable and marginalised groups within the local community, with particular emphasis on fully inclusive parks, wheelchair‑accessible spaces, and safe routes for wheelchair users and pedestrians.

She voluntarily organises large‑scale, accessible community art exhibitions that promote inclusion and strengthen community spirit by bringing people together through art. She also runs the community group Inclusive St Austell, which works to ensure marginalised groups are included and represented. In addition, she is actively involved with the Friends of Polkyth Hydrotherapy Pool, supporting the project in recognition of the significant health and disability benefits hydrotherapy offers to the community.
